Module 1.1 - A Turning Point Event for Environmental Science: Silent Spring

POINT OF VIEW   Rachel Carson’s point of view in the Silent Spring, was the Earth. How it was, and still is suffering. One of the voices was through nature, and how we are destroying it before our very eyes. Finally, the last point of view would have to be through the chemists and other scientists. They are the ones believing they can control nature, not that we are the ones affecting it. Carson warned us several times what would happen if things continued the way they were back then.    PURPOSE   The entire purpose of Carson’s fight was to bring attention to our world’s climate change. She made an entire point to say that we, humans, are the ones destroying the very world we are living in, and we must come together to change and fix it… while we still have time. She fought when DDT was being used as a pesticide but was dismissed regularly.      QUESTIONS AT ISSUE   The largest question at issue is to why no one believed that climate change...
What I Most Look Forward to in My Environmental Science Class Considering my degree is for Environmental Science, I am most excited to further my education toward that degree. I am finally breaking through my "core" classes (ex: Comp 1, History, etc.), and getting to the good stuff! It was difficult getting through some of the other classes that didn't pertain to my interest of environmental science, so now that I am here in this class I am beyond excited. I look forward to learning more about our environment, how humans have impacted our planet, different wild life and plants... all of the above!  What I Think This Class Will Be About I believe this class will teach us how our natural world works, and how humans have impacted it. I think we will study the different patterns of our environment - physical, chemical, and biological. Hopefully we will cover topics such as energy consumption and climate change, bringing attention to how we as humans can hopefully rever...
